Muppets Most Wanted

They’re back! In another show-stopping, musical adventure of course. Director James Bobin keeps those loveable puppets going in his 2014 released film Muppets Most Wanted.

During a big world tour Kermit (voiced by Steve Whitmore) is replaced by the evil Constantine (voiced by Matt Vogel) and thrown into prison. Unbeknownst to the other Muppets, Constantine and their manager Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais) are plotting to frame them as the criminals of a major robbery. Can the Muppets figure it all out before it’s too late?

This is a rather grand story to involve puppets in, with stunts any human would be envious of. These moments are actually funny more than impressive as a result. Ok, maybe they are impressive as well. But they, plus the many different genres of film used and even some of the songs (particularly the opening number), pick fun at films in general. The songs also, consistently, take the mick out of musicals, as they are cleverly constructed and make very valid points. But then this is the charm that the Muppets possess.

Aside from the music, the story and the quite amusing but clever stunts you also have the brief appearances from many celebrity faces. Some would even go as far as to say that this film quickly becomes a game of trying to spot and name them all. Others would recognize that when the likes of Lady Gaga, Loki and young Xavier themselves, Tom Hiddleston and James McAvoy, cameo, then it shows just how much of an impact these little furry critters have had over the years. Lets also not forget that Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey and Ty Burrell actually star in it.

Then there is the classic cheesy humour that accompanies the Muppets. Really bad jokes that you just can’t help but chuckle at. To be honest, this film didn’t need them, as the very concept is amusing enough… Muppets as criminals anyone? But the Muppets wouldn’t be the Muppets without groan worthy gags, right?

It’s about time the Muppets had a grand adventure as they finally get a world tour. But perhaps for those of you who grew up with them, the gags, celebrity faces and stunts might not be your thing.
